St Catherine’s Secure Centre

Located in St Helens, St Catherines is a nationwide resource providing supported residential accommodation for young men and women aged between 10-17 recommended under welfare orders.

We provide a protected safe, secure and stable environment for young people displaying risk taking behaviour, including self-harm and abuse, and who may be either a risk to themselves or to others.

St Catherine’s is divided into three secure units and one supported open unit. The atmosphere at St Catherine’s is comfortable and non-judgemental.

We provide personalised programmes of healthcare, education, training and work experience for each of our service users: they are nurtured, valued and respected by staff, and encouraged to grow and develop by learning to value and respect themselves and each other.

St Catherine’s excels in nurturing creativity and self-expression. Our students have included eight Koestler prizewinners, for music performance, computer produced music, textiles, weaving and collages. We have also had a number of prize-winners in the local St Helens poetry competition.

All of our educational facilities are on site, with a well-equipped sports hall for sporting events and drama productions. Each residential room has en suite facilities, offering service users privacy and dignity; and all are either new or recently refurbished.
